Your Attitude determines your Altitude in life. MY LEARNING EXPERIENCE…PritamBhadra
A Harward University study showed that when a person gets a job or promotion , 80% of the time its because of his attitude and only 20% of the time because of intelligence and knowledge of specific facts and figures. If you have been to an interview or gone through a promotion process you know that it takes a lot more to get it rather than just having good marks in certificates. Yes it’s the attitude of yours which makes the connection between you and your employer. I will share a small incident from my life which made me believe that how important it is of have the right attitude.
How Heart Throbbing Experiences Changes Your Mindset?
This is my story of how the transformation began & after this there was no looking back!!!
I was 18 years old passionate to become a Naval pilot, I filled up the form and fortunately got a call for the interview for the selection at the national level. I was thrilled when I got to know about the news. The selection was at a selection naval base 2000 km from my place.
I was all set to get into it, I went to the place one day before so that I could report on time the very next day. I was ready by 5 am in the morning. As i moved ahead towards the reporting area I was shocked to see hundreds of men standing and waiting to be called aboard the selection process. As I made my place to stand with my luggage and interacted with some candidates to know about them, my insecurities grew. They were experienced, 6ft tall, muscular and had army cut. Wow, I had none of them.
But a voice from the inside said Wait Pritam, you have come here to get through the selection process so stop comparing and focus on your process. I made up my mind that no matter what I will give my best. As I went through the selection process , test after test I became confident.
Now this was the time for RESULTS!!!
This was one of the toughest selection phases where roughly 10% of the candidate will make it and when the result was announced I made it into those 10% and all those guys with whom I compared with had to go back on the same day. that evening something struck me, I realized it was the attitude to give my best at that moment that made my selection possible and that day I promised myself to never compare myself with anyone else. I went till the last phase but could not get into the final list but that lesson remained with me in every walk of my life.
The attitude to never give up and thrive to give the best in any circumstances.
Some of the key things I learned during this whole process are:
- DO NOT COMPARE YOURSELF WITH OTHER’S POTENTIAL, WE ALL ARE UNIQUE IN OUR OWN WAY.
- NEVER GIVE UP BEFORE YOU CROSSED THE FINISHED LINE, LIFE WILL GIVE YOU SOME AMAZING BACKDOOR ENTRIES ONLY IF YOU ARE TRYING REALLY HARD TO GET IT.
- FOCUS ON THE IMMEDIATE WORK, WORRYING ABOUT THE FUTURE MAY RUIN YOUR PRESENT.
- ALWAYS HAVE THE LEARNING DESIRE, WHETHER YOU LOSE OR WIN. LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCES IN LIFE WILL HELP YOU TAKE BETTER DECISION IN FUTURE
